Create the right conditions for investment – Minority Leader

Kumasi, Jan 13, GNA – The Minority Leader of Parliament, Mr Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, has called on government to initiate sound economic measures to support investment in the country.

He said the prevailing conditions were unattractive to business transactions, citing high interest rate on loans, bad roads, high import duties and bureaucratic procedures by the Immigration Service. Mr Mensah-Bonsu, who is the Member of Parliament for Suame, in an interview with GNA in Kumasi, called on government to change the situation to boost the economy to create more jobs.

He said Ghana’s agriculture-based economy made it imperative to focus on the construction of more irrigation dams, feeder roads and mechanized farming to increase productivity.

Mr Mensah-Bonsu called for effective linkages between industry and research institutions for the production of quality goods locally. He lauded the performance of the minority in Parliament and vowed that it would continue to keep government on its toes.

Mr Mensah-Bonsu said he was confident that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would regain power in 2012 and asked party members to unite and work hard towards electoral victory.

He called on party members to educate the public on the ideology of NPP to win more members.
