Koforidua, Jan. 5, GNA – Mr Peter Mac-Manu, National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), said on Tuesday that the failure of the NPP to retain power in the 2008 General Election was due to the failure of his administration.
He said he would therefore not seek re-election when the party holds its National Delegates’ Congress to elect national officers. Mr Mac-Manu was speaking at the opening of the Eastern Regional Delegates’ Congress of the NPP in Koforidua.
Twenty-five candidates are contesting for eight Regional Executive positions in the party.
It is only the position of the treasurer that Mr Eric Boakye Darfu would be contesting unopposed.
The being contested are Regional Chairman, fist vice-chairman, second vice-chairman, secretary, assistant secretary, organizer, women’s organizer and youth organizer.
Mr Mac-Manu urged NPP supporters to ensure peace and unity at all levels of the party and urged them to use the laid down procedures of the party to resolve differences and desist from rushing to the media. He told the contestants that whether they win or lose, they belong to the same family and their cardinal focus should be how to get the party back to power in 2012.
