Street Academy holds Christmas party for street children

Accra, Dec.26, GNA – Street Academy, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) on Saturday held a Christmas Party for the needy and street children in Accra.

The party was organised for the children drawn from James Town and Chorkor in Accra and the Budumbura Refugee Camp in the Central Region, to make them feel happy and to be part of the Christmas celebrations. Miss Joanna Ofori, Project Co-ordinator of the NGO said happiness was every child’s right and since Christmas was children’s favourite day, it should not be treated as an occasion only for the rich. “We at Street Academy believe Christmas is for all children, whether rich or poor,” She explained.

The excited children danced to gospel tunes, participated in dancing competitions and a variety of cultural dances and interacted with the invited guests.

Street Academy was set up in 1992 with sponsorship from Ibis, a Danish development organisation, working to create equal access to education for the poor and marginalised.

The organisation sponsors the education of needy children to the tertiary level and offer vocational training to girls.
