Ajumako (C/R), Dec. 22, GNA – Mr Samuel.Kweku Adu Yeboah, a legal practitioner, is the new Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He polled 91 votes to defeat Dr Don Arthur, who got 64 votes at the Regional delegates’ congress at Ajumako.
Professor Samuel Mbreye Quartey, a Senior Lecturer at the University College of Education, Winneba, polled 125 votes to beat two other contestants, Samuel Graham Wilberforce who got 113, and David Mensah who got 58 votes, to become the First Regional Vice Chairman. Mr Wilberforce was however elected second Vice Chairman. Mr Kow Anyanful, a retired educationist, was elected unopposed as Secretary with Ms Grace Ekua Sam as his assistant. Ms Sam polled 86 votes as against 33 and 24 by Gerald Coleman Darko and William Atta-Mends respectively.
Mr Ben Allotey Jacobs was elected unopposed, as well as Mr Patrick Aniagyei as Propaganda Secretary and Regional Organizer respectively. Mr Abeiku Aggrey got 128 votes to defeat Samuel Aidoo who polled 27 votes, for the position of Deputy Organizer. Nana Osiebi got Deputy Propaganda Secretary position unopposed.
Miss Harriet Atta Arkorful polled 72 votes to beat two other contestants, Rebecca Forson and Godfrey Ekow Prah, who got 46 and 27 votes respectively, to become Treasurer.
Eric Essuah was elected Deputy Treasurer unopposed. The election was conducted by the Central Regional Director of the Electoral Commission and his Assistant.
Dr Yaw Kuranchie, chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Investment Bank, who chaired the occasion, cautioned the new executives against dictatorship.
“Do not lord it over the people, see the party supporters as colleagues and be nice to them,” he said. He urged them to remember at all times that each vote would be needed to retain power in 2012 which enjoined them to treat each and everyone with respect.
Dr Kuranchie advised them to make the Region a “World Bank” for the NDC.
Mrs Ama Benyiwa-Doe advised members and supporters of the party not to allow the NPP’s vile propaganda machinery to sway them off their guard, but to constantly explain government policies and programmes to the people. Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Eastern Regional Minister who swore the new executives into office, assured Ghanaians that the government of President Mills would not disappoint them by the close of its four-year term. He said the ailing economy they inherited had brought untold hardship but that things would soon be turned around. Mr Adu Yeboah in his acceptance speech, gave the assurance that they would work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them. 22 Dec. 09
