Asamoa-Tutu joins NDC Chairmanship race

Accra, Dec. 21, GNA – Dr. Austin Asamoa-Tutu, a leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Monday launched his campaign for the National Chairmanship of the party.

He promised to establish a training programme to make party foot soldiers economically self sufficient when given the nod. He said under his chairmanship “all foot soldiers shall be taught by a party institution on how to become economically self sufficient”. Dr. Asamoa-Tutu, 68, an Architect is the second aspirant to launch his campaign for the chairmanship slot; the first was the incumbent, Dr. Kwabena Adjei.

He described himself as experienced, mature, versatile and tenacious, saying many foot soldiers of the NDC would attest to his readiness to serve. “Upon my winning the chairmanship, all foot soldiers, in every way possible, shall be identified and recognised,” he said.

Dr. Asamoa-Tutu said as Chairman, he would lead the national executive to establish an ICT database for all members, functionaries and programmes of the party for proper organisation.

On funds to sponsor the projects, he said it would be generated internally, adding that the current monthly dues of one Ghana cedi would be reviewed.

Dr. Asamoa-Tutu, one of the founding members of the NDC in the Volta Region, assisted in the establishment of Gbi Rural Bank at Hohoe and Peki and a mentor of Dr. Alex Ababio, current Member of Parliament for South Dayi.

He had served in various capacities in the party at the regional level and gave the assurance that under his chairmanship victory at the 2012 general election for the NDC was assured.
