“UK in Ghana” pamphlet launched

Accra, Dec. 2, GNA – The British High Commission on Tuesday launched “UK in Ghana”, a pamphlet detailing the various activities of Britain in Ghana, with an assurance to continue to strengthen the bilateral relation= s between the two countries.

Speaking at the launch, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Dr Nicholas Westcott said the Commission wanted to mark the wide range of Britain’s relationship with Ghana and to recognise the close and warm relationship that existed between it and the Ghanaian media.

He said some aspects of the relationship were well known and cited t= he =A385 million a year aid programme; the British Council activities promot= ing leadership and management skills and education and the visa regime. Dr Westcott said others that were less known included the A31.0 mill= ion Britain gave to support Election 2008; and the work the two countries did=

together to tackle climate change, when they achieved the Commonwealth Consensus in Trinidad and Tobago; the battle against drug trafficking and=

the A323 million support given to the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Sta= ff College over the past 10 years.

He said British businesses continued to invest in Ghana, creating jo= bs; transferring technology; building up skills and helping Ghana to become a=

modern and efficient economy and cited companies like Tullow Oil and Vodafone that have recently arrived and older ones like Unilever and Cadbury. “The UK in Ghana” gives details about the High Commission, what it d= oes and how to contact it in a handy, colourful and accessible way. 2 Dec. 09
