Techiman, (B/A), Nov. 17, GNA – A Techiman-based businessman has suggested the recruitment of volunteer guards to check and arrest people who would dispose of waste indiscriminately in the communities. Nana Ameyaw Manu, Managing Director of NA-ME-YAW Cashew Company Limited, said if the guards could be motivated with a monthly allowance it would help curb the indiscriminate dumping of both liquid and solid waste by residents.
He was speaking with the Ghana News Agency after a three-hour clean-up exercise by the chief and people of Abanim electoral area in the Techiman Municipality during which they cleared a ‘mountain’ of refuse. The people were educated about the need for good sanitation and were urged to keep their surroundings clean to avoid the breeding of mosquitoes and diseases.
Nana Manu urged the people to rekindle their spirit of volunteerism and participate in future communal labour exercises, which must be devoid of political traits.
Nana Kwasi Marfo, Head of Krotihene Family of Techiman Traditional Area advised parents to ensure that their children dumped refuse at appropriate disposal sites.
