Polytechnic teachers threaten strike action

Sunyani, Nov. 9, GNA – The Polytechnic Teacher’s Association of Ghana (POTAG) on Monday urged the government as a matter of urgency to release the salary arrears to them to forestall any disturbances on campuses. “POTAG cannot guarantee the industrial peace on the polytechnic campuses if the government fails to pay the overdue arrears by Tuesday, November 17, 2009,” a press statement signed by Mr. Alfred Nii Martey, National President, said.

The association expressed displeasure about the non-payment of the salary arrears as agreed upon in the Memorandum of Understanding “between the government on one hand and organised labour on the other, dated Tuesday July 7, 2009 and same endorsed by the standing Joint Negotiating Committee (SJNC) of the Polytechnics on August 6.”
