Private Universities, key to manpower development

Kumasi, Nov 2, GNA – Professor Emmanuel Addo Obeng, former Vice-Chancellor of the University 0f Cape Coast (UCC), has lauded the increasing number of private universities in the country. He said these would help the nation to produce manpower to spearh= ead its socio-economic and technological development. Professor Obeng, however, stressed that there was the need for th= e private Universities to do more on demand-driven and worker-friendly programmes to make their products more useful to the society. He was speaking at the 34th matriculation ceremony of the Christ= ian Service University College in Kumasi at which 1,091 students were admitte= d. Professor Obeng appealed to the university authorities to pay attention to structures that would enhance academic excellence especially=

staff development. Professor Emmanuel Frempong, President of the College, stressed the need for universities to concentrate on combining academic excellence wit= h good moral upbringing.
