Implement Road Map agreed on Single Spine Salary Structure-Government told

Bolgatanga (UE), Nov. 1, GNA- The Upper East branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has expressed disappointment on government failure to implement the agreed road map on the Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP).

The Regional Secretary of GNAT, Mr. Attey Linus Cofie, recounted that at a three day stakeholders’ consultative workshop on the SSPP held at GIMPA on May 27 to 29, 2009, it was agreed that between July and August, government would consider a Cabinet memo on the SSPP and issue a White Paper on its implementation.

He noted that it was also agreed that between September and November 2009, activities including negotiations with Labour on negotiable aspects of the single spine pay structure, placing all job holders on the New Salary Structure by the fair Wages Commission and the Controller and Accounting Department to pre-test the structure should be completed.

The Regional Secretary stated that up till now, the expected White Paper had not yet been issued to allow other processes to start and stressed that the road map of the SSPP was behind schedule for four months now. He said it was even more regrettable that the national budget would be read on November, 2009 whilst the road map of the SSPP had not yet been implemented since it would have been factored into the budget. Mr. Cofie called on Government to as a matter of urgent ensure that the road map agreed upon was implemented within the remaining time frame so as to help ensure industrial peace adding organized labour would no longer accept any negations on the SSPP if it is not implemented in January 2010. 01 Nov. 09
