GE donates health care equipment to GHS

Accra, Oct. 29, GNA – The Management of General Electric Commercial Finance (GECF), a US organization, on Thursday presented health care equipment worth 4,000 dollars to the Ghana Health Service (GHS). The equipment included 3,700 pairs of spectacles, surgical masks, gloves, head bonnets and shoe booties.

Briefing journalists in Accra Ms Rosetta M. Hooker, Senior Credit Officer of GECF, said the presentation was in line with their social responsibility to help people with eye problems, especially school children. She said that Ghana needed to change at every stage of her development and expressed the company’s desire to plan its projects to suit the emerging needs.

“We hope to find new opportunities for development and also improve upon our existing interests,” she said. Dr George Amofah, Deputy Director-General of the GHS who received the equipment, said since 2004, the GHS had collaborated with GE in the provision of health care equipment for hospitals. He said Ghana had benefited from a 20 million-dollar humanitarian programme by GE aimed at supporting health care delivery systems in some African hospitals and clinics.

Dr Amofah said out of this package, the country has received 10 million dollars worth of medical equipment and infrastructure. He said GHS was willing to collaborate with GE in the health sector since good health care delivery was crucial to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. 29 Oct. 09
