Government renews curfew in Bawku and Gushegu

Accra, Oct. 26, GNA – Government on Monday renewed the curfew imposed on Bawku Municipality, Gushegu and their immediate environs for another week with effect from Monday, October 26.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Dr Kwasi Apea-Kubi, Deputy Minister for the Interior, said the curfew hours remained unchanged from midnight to 0400 hours each day.

It said the decision was on the advice of the Upper East and Northern Regional Security councils.

The statement said the government had been encouraged by the relative peace and calm in the last few weeks and expressed its appreciation to the collective efforts of the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders and the people. The government reiterated its appeal to all stakeholders including the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders and peace-loving people to recognise the need to work towards peace and co-existence and urged the people to eschew the mistrust and bitterness that had stalled peace in those areas.

Government reiterated that there was a ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipality including Zabugu, Binduri, Pusiga, Zoasi and Gushegu and their environs from carrying arms, ammunitions or any offensive weapons, and anyone found with any arms or ammunition would be arrested and prosecuted=
