Fake currency dealers remanded

Kumasi, October 13, GNA – Two persons believed to be members of a fake currency printing syndicate have appeared before a Kumasi Circuit Court a= nd ordered to be held in prison custody. The pleas of Kwadwo Kwarteng and Shaibu Alhassan were not taken=

and they would re-appear on October 21. Their accomplice, known only as Buhari, is however, on the run and the police have mounted a search for him. Police Chief Inspector Archibald Kwesi Fandoh, presenting the facts to=

the Court, presided over by Mr. Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey, said the accused are friends residing at Atimatim in the Kwabre District. On Sunday, October 4, Miss Evelyn Mensah, a Junior High School (JHS) student, who is also an MTN scratch card seller, sold one of the cards with a face value of GH¢10 to Kwarteng.

He said the lady detected that the 10 cedi note received as payment from the accused was fake and made a report to the Old-Tafo Police, leading to his arrest.

During interrogation, he mentioned Buhari and Shaibu as his accomplices.

A search conducted by the police in his room uncovered a quantity of fake notes in GH¢20 denomination, which bore the same serial number “BB3701848.”

Also seized were a printing machine, chemicals and a pair of scissors used for the illegal activity and these were used as exhibits in Court.
