Non-placed BECE candidates to be included next week

Accra, Oct. 1, GNA – The Ministry of Education, on Thursday said it would ensure that all qualified candidates, who could not gain admission into Senior High Schools (SHS), would be catered for by next week. Mr. Paul Kofi Krampah, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry, told Ghana News Agency in Accra that figures on vacancies in the SHS were being collated for admission of the students. He said the problem of some candidates not gaining admission should be blamed on parents who did not make the right choices for their children.

Mr. Krampah explained that placement to a candidate’s desired school depended on performance and those who performed poorly but selected category ‘A’ schools would not gain admission. The PRO said that the placement system had been improved to prevent the problem of candidate not gaining admission. Mr. Krampah said the Ministry would not accept any quotas to schools to admit certain candidates of their choice. He said that the computerised selection and placement system was introduced to make admissions transparent and prevent favouritism that characterised the manual selection and admission system. Meanwhile, students admitted to SHS are expected to report to school from October 12-15.
