Gushiegu now has DCE

Gushiegu (N/R), Sept.17, GNA – Mr. Fuseini Alhassan, 49, was on Monday sworn into office as the new District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Gushiegu District Assembly in the Northern Region.

The Assembly earlier failed on two occasions to endorse the President’s nominee for the position, Mr Alhassan, a former officer of the Audit Service in Salaga in the East Gonja District.

Swearing in the new DCE, Mr. Stephen Sumani Nayina, Northern Regional Minister, noted that for a long time Gushiegu had been divided along political and chieftaincy lines, making it impossible for an agreement to be reached on the appointment of a DCE for the area. He urged the DCE to strive to reconcile the people irrespective of their political or chieftaincy affiliations to enable him pursue the development agenda for the district.

Mr Nayina urged the DCE to run an open door administration to enable him to effectively administer the district.

He called on the Assembly Members and the people of Gushiegu to cooperate with the new DCE towards the development of the area. Mr. Alhassan pledged to cooperate with the people and Member of Parliament for the area for peace and development. The DCE said he would work hard to improve education, roads and social amenities in the area.
