Government renews curfew in Bawku and Gushegu

Accra, Sept. 14, GNA – The Minister of the Interior, Mr Cletus Avoka, has on the advice of the Upper East and Northern Regional Security Councils and by Executive Instrument, renewed the curfew imposed on the Bawku Municipality, Gushegu Township and their immediate environs for another week with effect from Monday, September 14, 2009. The curfew hours remain unchanged from 12 midnight to 4:00 am each day.

A statement issued in Accra on Monday and signed by Mr Avoka said “Government continues to urge the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders and the factions to the various conflicts to give peace a chance and to use non violent means to resolve all conflicts that arise”.

Meanwhile, Government has reiterated the ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipal area, Zabugu, Binduri, Pusiga, Zoasi and Gushegu Township and their environs from carrying arms, ammunitions or any offensive weapon and that any person found with arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted. 14 Sept. 09
