Bolgatanga, Sept 4, GNA – The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mark Woyongo, has appealed to the National Service Scheme (NSS), to include in their investment budget, an initiative to construct hostels for its personnel in the regions. He said the NSS has come to stay and it is imperative that they acquire such facilities to avoid the annual ritual of personnel constantly using the lack of accommodation as an excuse to refuse postings to some parts of the country. This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Public Relations Officer at the Regional Coordinating Council, Mr Kasim Medjeeda, after the Director of the NSS, Mr Vincent Koagbenu had paid a courtesy call on the Minister, to brief him on the operations of the scheme in the region.
The Regional Minister praised the personnel of the scheme for their contributions towards the development of the region and urged them to fill the vacancies in the teaching and health sectors, since the region suffers most in those areas of human resource. The statement said the Minister further appealed to the Director of the scheme to work out possible modalities to get motorbikes for personnel of the scheme in the region, to enhance work and also serve as a motivation for the personnel to accept postings to the region. The statement said Mr Koagbenu assured that the NSS would recruit 25,000 national service personnel, to be posted to serve all municipal and district assemblies throughout the country. He further hinted that efforts were being made to engage medical personnel such as doctors, and medical assistants to undertake service in remote communities, especially in Northern Ghana and entreated those posted to these areas to accept it as a service to mother Ghana.
