Beef-up Security at Chereponi for By-election

Chereponi, (N/R) Sept. 3, GNA – The Chereponi Fame, (Chief) Jaminja Malba Gomna, has appealed to the government to beef-up security at Chereponi prior to the by-elections to avoid any violence in that constituency.

He observed that even though the area was relatively peaceful, elections had their own peculiar problems that needed to be addressed to forestall some of nasty incidents that occurred during by-elections in other parts of the country. The by-election at Chereponi has been necessitated by the death of Mrs Doris Asibi Seidu, the NPP Member of Parliament for the constituency.

Fame Gomna said he, on his part, had been educating his subjects to be law abiding and continue to live in peace, before, during and after the by-elections.

“We in this traditional area are one people who are bonded by inter marriages and blood relations. We should not, therefore, allow modern politics to divide us,” the Chereponi Fame said. The traditional ruler made the appeal at a durbar in honour of Mr. Alex Tetteh Enyo, the Minister for Education, when he visited the area to announce the upgrading of the Chereponi Senior High School to the status of a boarding school.

The Education Minister said the government would intensify the training of un-trained teachers to make them professionals to enable them to deliver quality education in schools. He said the government was determined to address the challenges facing the educational sector and appealed to stakeholders in education delivery to partner with it and the district assemblies to provide infrastructure and other logistics to schools.
