Teachers urged to upgrade their skills

Nkoranza (B/A) Aug. 21, GNA – The Reverend Samuel Afranie Amankwaa, Brong Ahafo Regional Director of Education, has urged teachers and workers in educational institutions to take advantage of the various courses to upgrade themselves.

This, he noted, would help them to meet the challenges of the educational reforms and the Information Communication Technology. He stressed that the rapid changes in the world called for improvement in manpower development in Ghana, and there was the need for intellectuals and stakeholders to improve their skills and knowledge. Rev. Amankwaa, a Minister of the Methodist Church, was addressing a meeting of sta ff of Nkoranza District Directorate of Education at Nkoranza.

He commended the introduction of distance learning and ‘Top Up’ educational programmes, and advised both teachers and workers to seize the opportunity to upgrade themselves.

The Regional Director asked workers to redouble efforts and cautioned officials at educational institutions against demanding and accepting bribes before rendering services. He said the practice was criminal and culprits when caught would be severely punished.

Rev. Amankwaa said the ban on recruitment of pupil teachers and other workers in the districts was still in force, and advised district directors to comply till the ban was lifted. He disclosed that the regional directorate would conduct a head count of teachers in all schools in the districts to cross-out ghost names.

Mr. Enoch Osei-Sarfo, Nkoranza District Director of Education, expressed gratitude to the regional director for the visit and gave the assurance that the staff would continue to work as a team to help improve the standard of education in the district.
