Two MHIS owe Juaben Government Hospital over GH¢211,000

Ejisu (Ash), Aug 20, GNA – Two District Health Insurance Schemes (DHIS) are indebted to the Juaben Government Hospital to the tune of GH¢211,626.96. Ejisu-Juaben owes the facility an amount of GH¢187,965.16 while Sekyere East’s indebtedness stands at GH¢23,661.80. Dr Prosper K. Gbekor, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, said this was making it difficult for them to operate. He was addressing the mid-year performance review meeting of the Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Health Directorate at Ejisu. Dr Gbekor said the last time the two schemes made any payment to the hospital was in January this year. In spite of the financial constraint, they were doing everything they could to provide services to card holders of the health insurance scheme. He however appealed to the Government to ensure that adequate funds were released to the schemes to enable them to pay the money owed to the facility.

Dr Gbekor recognized the significant contribution the health insurance scheme was making towards health promotion in the area and said this was evident from the increase in the hospital’s Out-Patient Department (OPD) attendance from 14,954 in mid of last year to 18,804 this year. Still-birth had reduced from five, in last year, to a single case as of June, this year. He praised the hospital’s staff for the good job they were doing and urged them to continue working with dedication.
