Ejisu-Juaben records 108 road accidents within eight months

Ejisu, (Ash), Aug 20, GNA – The Ejisu-Juaben Municipality has within the first eight months of the year, recorded a total of 108 road accidents. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) S.K. Dobara, Municipal Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) said they claimed 19 lives and left 39 others seriously injured. He identified drunk-driving, recklessness, disregard for road traffic regulations and irregular servicing of vehicles as the main causes of the accidents.

About 90 per cent of them could be blamed on “human factor” and could have been prevented if the drivers were a bit careful, he added. ASP Dobara told the Ghana News Agency that, to help check the carnage on the roads, the municipal office of the MTTU was stepping up its road traffic safety education. He described as worrying the situation where a number of vehicles on the road did not have fire extinguishers. ASP Dobara advised drivers to observe road traffic regulations to help save lives and urged pedestrians to be careful, especially when crossing the road.
