Ghana@50Commission orders Upper West Region to re-appear

Accra, Aug. 6, GNA – Justice Isaac Duose, Chairman of the Ghana@50 Commission on Thursday ordered the Upper West Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) to re-appear on a later date to present it with the Memorandum the Regional Co-ordinating Director read during the sitting.

He said although Mr David Assibi Yakubu, Regional Co-ordinating Director had presented the commission with a memorandum, which the panel thought was to be presented at the sitting, he read another memorandum that was different from what they had.

Mr Duose said the report was not only misleading, but was also submitted at a short period, which did not give the Commission members and counsel for both the Commission and Ghana@50 Secretariat ample time to study.

Mr Yakubu explained that when his outfit received an invitation to appear before the Commission, the RCC furnished the body with a summarised version of their report, but later presented the detailed one to the commission’s secretariat.

He said the region was able to sell all the 1,000 pieces of Ghana@50 cloth consignment and deposited the total amount of GH¢30,000.00 into

the RCC Operations Account. When Mr Yakubu was asked why the RCC left the money into the

account without investing it, he said the council was not a business entity

and therefore could not have invested the proceeds.
