Kumasi, July 22, GNA – A police officer has appealed to Ghanaians to pay their taxes to help the government to generate enough revenue to equip the police and other security agencies to maintain peace and order in the country.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Maxwell Agyemang, the Konongo Divisional Crime Officer, said this at a peace durbar held at Domeabra in the Asante-Akim North District. It was organized by the Youth Network for Human Rights and Democracy (You-net), a non governmental organisation and sponsored by the German Development Services.
Speaking on the theme “Interacting for Peace”, Mr Agyemang said the police were partners in governance and must not only be supported with resources but also vital information to fight crime. He said people must not to be either afraid or to hesitate in giving out information to the police.
Mr. Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, Member of Parliament for the area, called for unity among Ghanaians and said in Parliament both sides of the house co-operate on issues of national interest. He counselled against violence and said they should at all times accept to use dialogue to resolve their differences. “We must see ourselves as one people and commit ourselves towards erasing all forms of ethnocentrism.” Mr. Paul Boamah Sefa, the NGO’s Coordinator on Peace and Governance, said the programme, the second of its kind to be organized in the region, was to help foster unity among Ghanaians and to also demystify governance.
