Minister distribute relief items to flood victims

Ho, July 18, GNA- Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister on Friday presented relief items to some district assemblies for distribution to victims of the recent floods and other disasters in the region.

The items include bags of rice, maize, student mattresses, used clothing, cups and plates. The beneficiary assemblies are Ho Municipality, Nkwanta-North and Nkwanta-South districts.

Mr Amenowode also presented bags of rice to the Ho Leprosarium to support the food ration of the inmates. He said government was adopting a policy of disaster prevention instead of disaster management and urged the public to build structures that could withstand disasters.

Mr Amenowode urged the chief executives to educate the public on the essence of planting trees around houses to serve as windbreaks. Mr Victor Herman-Condobrey, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive on behalf of recipients, commended the National Disaster Management Organisation and the Regional Co-ordinating Council for the assistance and promised that the items would be fairly distributed.
