Heavy down pour causes havoc in Saltpond

Saltpond, July 15, GNA – A heavy down pour in Mfantseman Municipality has caused havoc to some establishments and people in Saltpond. The worst affected were the residence of the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman West, Mr. Acquinas Tawiah Quansah, Ghana Commercial Bank, the Municipal Teacher’s Cooperative Credit Union offices and some private homes. Speaking to the GNA at Saltpond Mr Quansah said his electrical appliance and other household items were destroyed in the flood. Also affected were 20 computers he bought to be presented to some senior high schools in the area which he was keeping in his residence awaiting distribution.

He said technicians would examine the computers to determine the extent of damage Mr. Quansah later toured the area and at the Ghana Commercial Bank, Mr. John Etsiwah Moore, Operations Manager, said that was the third time in four years that floods had destroyed items in the bank. “Luckily this time we had the foresight to protect our machinery and other important documents before the floodwaters got to the bank,” he said. Mr. Moor said the bank was in the process of relocating to a higher ground where they would be free from floods. 15 July 09
