Nkwanta police to prosecute suspect for attempting to bribe cop

Nkwanta, July 7, GNA – Dzigbordi Kumatse, a brother of a suspect in police grips on narcotics charges, has been arrested for attempting to bribe Detective Corporal Mawuli Owusu-Agbe of Nkwanta Police. Kumatse deployed bribery as a tool to demand the release of his brother arrested as part of a police swoop on hideouts of suspected criminals for peddling narcotic substances.

Mr Douglas Kumah, Nkwanta District Commander, told the GNA that Kumatse appeared at the station at about 1530 hours demanding the release of his brother but it was rebuffed.

He went to the policeman house at 1830 hours the same day with an envelope containing 500 Ghana cedis but this was again rejected. Mr Kumah said Kumatse returned the next day, promising to pay even more to facilitate the release of his brother but he was arrested and would be prosecuted. He commended the resilience of the detective and urged other policemen and women to emulate the example of Corporal Owusu-Agbe to save the image of the service.
