Abotoase Should Be Considered for Capital of new District – Chief.

Tapa-Abotoase, June 30, GNA – Nana Kwame Ampertiy II, Chief of Tapa-Abotoase, at the weekend suggested that Abotoase be considered for the siting of the newly created Biakoye District capital, beyond Worawora and Nkonya-Ahenkro, which are at the centre of litigation. Speaking to journalists at Abotoase, Nana Ampertiy, added his voice to calls being made for an out-of-court settlement of the impasse. He said for nearly two years, economic activity and development projects have stalled in the area as a result of the fracas over where the capital should be sited, and also due to the delay in the inauguration of the district for a take-off.

Nana Ampertiy said traditional authorities, who are custodians of the land and belief systems, should be entrusted with the responsibility of arbitrating in the impasse to restore the dignity of the area. He indicated that even though Worawora was earlier earmarked for the district capital when the issue broke out initially, the variables on the ground have since changed, with about six out of the original 12 traditional areas being ceded to the neighbouring Krachi East District. “Neutral areas should be considered for true peace in the spirit of reconciliation and industrial harmony,” he added.

Nana Ampertiy said Worawora and Nkonya could no longer be part of the areas under consideration and, therefore, called on stakeholders to consider Abotoase, which is more central and has the requisite infrastructure for a smooth take-off.

Biakoye district was among the newly created local government areas by the previous administration, the location of whose capital has become a bone of contention between Worawora and Nkonya.
