Police call for halt of sale of dangerous implements on the street

Accra, June 26, GNA – The Ghana Police Service on Friday expressed concern about the sale of dangerous implements, such as small axes, jack knives and other sharp weapons along the streets. “Criminals who lay their hands on such implements use them to break into rooms, threaten the lives of people and rob them of their valuables,” a statement issued in Accra by the Director of Public Affairs, Deputy Superintendent of Police Kwesi Ofori, said. The police said these implements, which are normally displayed openly under traffic lights and on pavements, posed threat and danger to the lives of the general public and therefore called on traders of such implements to desist from selling in the open. The Police Administration has released telephone numbers the public could call as part of measures to ensure effective communication and reduce crime and violence.

The numbers are: 021-773906, 021-775769, 021-773900 and 021-773695. It said 191 on Tigo, MTN, Kasapa and Vodafone still remain activated and valid.

The statement said the public who wanted to call the Police on general crime issues could call these telephone numbers and he assured the public of a safe and secured environment.
