Tuobodom (B/A), June 25, GNA – Mr. Alex Kyeremeh, Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, has said the NDC government was determined to make education more affordable and urged parents to contribute to the realization of this goal.
He said though the municipal assembly would continue to support the development of schools, it was imperative for parents, guardians and teachers to collaborate to provide adequate logistics to improve the standard of education.
Mr Kyeremeh was addressing chiefs, parents, teachers and students of Tuobodom Senior High Technical School at a fund raising ceremony in aid of the construction of the headmaster’s bungalow. Two thousand Ghana cedis out of an estimated 50,000 Ghana cedis were collected at the function.
Mr. Kyeremeh said the assembly had identified education as a top priority in its developmental agenda and urged parents to steer their children away from the use of hard drugs, indecent dressing and other anti-social practices. Mr. Seth Asah Adjei, Assistant Director of Education at the Municipal Directorate Education, called on stakeholders to help provide decent accommodation for school heads and staff. Mr. Peter Hayford Appiah, the Headmaster, said the student population had increased from 45 in 1991, when the school was established, to 536 with 20 teachers and 23 non-teaching staff. He said the school lacked an administrative block, staff bungalows, a library and science laboratory. Nana Obeng Barimah Ameyaw, chief of Tuobodom, advised politicians and teaching staffs of the school against the use of the school campus for political activities and donated 100 bags of cement towards the project.
