Laurent Gbagbo Visits President Kuffour

The Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo, Tuesday made a brief stop over in Accra where he met his Ghanaian counterpart, president John Kuffor, officials sources said.

The sources said President Gbagbo was on his way to Yammoussoukro (Cote d’Ivoire) where he was to officiate the “International Women’s Day” programme slated for Wednesday, when he decided to divert his course and visit the new Ghanain head of state.

A staff of President Gbagbo’s communication office said the two leaders discussed in “a brotherly atmosphere”.

He said the two men agreed on a date for Ghanaian president John Kuffour to pay a return visit to Cote d’Ivoire.

Relations between the two countries have been lukewarm since the bloody incidents in 1993 following a football match between Asec of Abidjan and Kotoko of Ghana which resulted in the death of several dozens of Ghanaian nationals in Cote d’voire.
