Foundation wants fire station built in markets

Kumasi, June 16, GNA – The Atta Mills Foundation, a pro-democracy non-governmental organisation (NGO), has suggested the establishment of fire stations in markets.

This was contained in a statement signed by Togbui Mawufeame Fugah, Life Patron of the Foundation, and issued in Kumasi. The foundation expressed worry about the high rate of fire outbreaks especially in markets in recent times and called on stake holders to be proactive in finding solution to this development. The statement appealed to the Ghana National Fire Service to team up with the Anti Fire Volunteers to sensitize the public about the major cause of fire and its prevention.

It also suggested the formation of Anti Fire Volunteer Clubs in basic and second cycle schools to educate the youth on the dangers of fire and their effects on the socio-economic advancement of the nation. It appealed to traders to shun practices that promote fire outbreaks and urged the Electricity Company of Ghana to ensure periodic checks of illegal electricity connections and wirings since those also account for fire outbreaks.
