One person died in a road accident at Tema

Tema, June 13, GNA – One pupil died on the spot and another in critical condition when they were knocked down by a car on their way home from school.

Eight-year-old class four pupil of St Alban Anglican School in Tema, Mary Marquaye was pronounced dead on arrival at the Tema General Hospital where they were rushed after the accident on Thursday. Seven-year-old Margaret Clinton, a classmate of the deceased on admission is responding to treatment.

An eyewitness account said they were crossing the Rotary Avenue road, which links Community five to the Community two roundabout at about 1445 hours, when they were hit by Mr Mike Dzikunu, driving a Toyota Fortuner with registration number GT 5549 Y. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alice Gyamfi, Commander of Tema Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) confirmed the accident to Ghana News Agency on Friday and said the driver had been placed in police custody to assist in investigations. She said the corpse had been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy.
