Atonsu-Agogo chief granted bail over fraud

Kumasi, June 4, GNA – Nana Kofi Poku, chief of Atonsu-Agogo, was granted GH¢20,000 bail with a surety by a Kumasi Circuit Court for taking GH¢3,600 from a farmer under the pretext of securing him a plot of land.

The chief pleaded not guilty to the offence in his first appearance but admitted taking the money and was therefore remanded. He has been ordered by the court to make a full payment by June 11, his next appearance.

Police Chief Inspector Nana Fosu told the court that on January 9, last year Nana Poku resold the land to Mr Allegbor Gamali though he knew it had already been sold to one Mr. Kyei Boafo who lives abroad. He said Mr Gamali, who was issued with a site plan, went to the plot but chased out by some workers employed by the first owner. Chief Inspector Nana Fosu said the chief went into hiding until he was arrested.
