Kumasi, May 28, GNA – A Kumasi Circuit Court on Thursday remanded Nana Kofi Poku, Chief of Atonsu Agogo in Kumasi for allegedly defrauding a farmer of GH¢3,600 under the pretext of securing him a plot of land. Nana Poku who pleaded not guilty would re-appear on June 4. Police Chief Inspector Nana Fosu told the court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that Mr Alegbor Gamali, a corn mill operator consulted the chief for a plot of land.

He said Gamali paid GH¢3,600 to the chief after he had promised to give him the land which he(Nana Poku) knew had been sold by Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to one Kyei Boafo, who lives abroad. Police Chief Inspector Fosu said after some months, the complainant went to the land but found it was being developed by some workers who chased him out when he told them the land belonged to him. He said the complainant showed a site plan to Nana Poku who sensing danger, went into hiding but was arrested and charged with the offence.
