Police officer warns against “Sakawa”

Berekum (B/A), May 27 (Credit Pius Agyemang) GNA – Assistant Superintendent of Police Yaw Asubonteng, Berekum Municipal Police Commander, has urged internet operators in the Brong-Ahafo Region to be extra cautious of the sakawa phenomenon that is gaining prominence in Ghana.

Briefing the media on measures put in place to prevent the introduction of the “sakawa” in the municipality on Monday, he urged internet operators “to remain calm and be vigilant.” “Now that the business is allegedly flourishing in Kumasi, Accra and some other urban centres both internet operators and the police face the daunting task in helping to combating it”, he said. Mr Asubonteng gave the assurance that the police would explore every avenue to apprehend any person(s) who might attempt to engage in the obnoxious crime in the municipality.
