Farmer jailed for defiling five-year-old girl

Hohoe, May 22, GNA – A Hohoe circuit court has sentenced Kofi Katus, 32, a farmer at Monkrati near Dambai in the Krachi East District to 12 years jail term in hard labour for defiling a five-year-old kindergarten pupil. Katus pleaded guilty.

Police Chief Inspector Samuel Gbedemah told the court that Katus lured the victim into his bedroom, defiled her and gave her 10 pesewas. Mr Gbedemah said victim’s father, who was worried about her daughter’s disappearance, suddenly saw her and noticed she looked tired and could not walk properly.

When questioned, she said the convict “inserted something into her private part”.

A report was made to the police and the Katus was arrested. Katus said he was drunk from the farm on the day in question and could not have known whether he defiled the minor or not. The victim was admitted to the Nkwanta District Hospital for five days.
