, Akufo-Addo Would Have Listened
Hon P.C. Appiah-Ofori has said that he had wished that Nana Akufo-Addo had won the 2008 Presidential election, because he believes he would have found a hearing under Akufo-Addo’s Presidency, than when he was gagged and prevented from voicing out his reservations on the Vodafone deal, when it came to the floor of the house during the last parliament.
‘I took a firm decision to oppose the sale of the 70 % share when the matter came to the floor of the house, but try as I would, I was prevented by the majority leadership in Parliament from speaking.’ The result of this was that he had no alternative than to sit through the motions and resolutions on the floor, resulting in the sale of Ghana Telecom shares to Vodafone International Holdings BV, instead of Vodafone PLC, United Kingdom, as authorized by former President Kufuor.
He added that because of the elections, he decided to defer making public his opposition to the sale,”‘as I did not want to do anything that would harm the fortune of my party. My hope was to see Nana Akufo-Addo succeed former President Kufuor and, therefore, I had planned to send this petition to him to revoke the sale of GT and retrieve Ghana’s sold interest”.
