NDC and NPP Attend CPP Conference

Ghana’s ruling Party, the National Democratic Congress ( NDC) as well as the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), both delivered messages of solidarity at the Regional Conference of the United Kingdom and Ireland Branch of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) , held over the weekend in London. The NPP was represented by a 3 man delegation headed by its Chairman –Mr Hayford Atta-Krufi. The NDC was represented by its Assistant Secretary Mr Sam Quaye.

The visiting delegation received a warm welcome from the CPP members in yet a another sign of Ghana’s deepening Democracy.

It also signaled to all that the different parties although adversaries in the political arena, were united as Ghanaians in a shared destiny . Fraternal greetings were also received from the CPP’s National Leadership in Accra, Samia Yaba Nkrumah – CPP MP for Jomoro, CPP North America , CPP Scandanavia, CPP Ho Central and a host of other messages. All congratulated the CPP for the advances it has made and the role it continues to play in Ghana’s maturing democracy.

The Conference elected new officers to steer the affairs of the CPP in the United Kingdom and Ireland for the next 4 years, with current Chairman – Nii Armah Akomfrah re-elected as Chairman.

The other elected officers are: Mr BB Ossei – Vice Chairman, Mr Hayford P Akrofi – Vice Chairman, Mr Kyei Anim-Sampong Secretary, Mr Evans Quarm – Treasurer, Nana Afua Sarpong – Womens Organiser, Mr Kwami Agbodza – Education Secretary, Dr Sam Laryea – Organiser and Mr Kwame Nkrumah Agyapong- Youth Organiser.

In his Executive Report to the Conference, Chairman Akomfrah said the CPP Branch was one of the best Branches of any political party in or outside Ghana, and that their many achievements should be a source of pride for all members. He said further that many innovations of the Branch has been copied by the main parties in Ghana, adding that the outgoing Executive had made great strides against its 5 Point Strategic Plan, which was backed by an annual programme of action, and a monthly public/membership meeting.
