Re-nominate Emelia Arthur as Shama DCE

Shama (W/R), May 13, GNA – The Essemaman Development Association in the Shama District has appealed to President John Atta Mills to re-nominate Ms. Emelia Arthur as the District Chief Executive of the area. “Our appeal is strengthened by the fact that the assembly members should be given a second chance to make right an apparent wrong”, the association said. Mr. Isaac Afful, the President of the Essemaman Development Association, said this at a press conference in Shama on Tuesday. “We are confident that our President will hear our appeal for the mutual benefit of the people of the Shama District and Ghana as a whole,” he said.

Also, a petition to the President and signed by Mr. Joseph A. Arthur, the Presiding Member of Shama District Assembly said “we the assembly members of the Shama District Assembly wish to apologize to the President for not approving his nominee Ms Emelia Arthur as the DCE.” It said allegations of bribery against some members and rumours that others had gone to ask for some financial inducements from Ms. Arthur before the voting infuriated assembly members so they voted against the nominee.

“We wish to state categorically that we love Ms Arthur and still want her as the DCE of Shama”, he said. Ms Arthur polled seven votes out of 17 in the first of round of voting on May 07 and this represented 41 per cent of the total votes cast.
