Government salutes Ghana’s labour force

Accra, April 30, GNA – Mr Antwi-Boasiako Kyere, Deputy Minister of Employment and Social Welfare, on Thursday said government appreciated the tremendous contribution of workers towards the development of the country.

“We salute them on this May Day and want to assure them of government support in all they do”, he said. In a May Day message to workers during an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra, he said, “They need to redouble their efforts in terms of improving their production and productivity.” Mr Antwi-Boasiako said government stands by its pledge to respect and recognize workers and to ensure that their skills and knowledge are improved.

He said President John Ata Mills is committed to his pledge to invest in the nation’s human resource including workers in ensuring that they have the skills, knowledge and attitude towards the development of the country.

Mr Antwi-Boasiako said the government would re-skill the labour force in view of the dynamic nature of the world of work because training and retraining is important to his development agenda. “We would create jobs for middle manpower that is why we have a programme of increasing the number of polytechnics, vocational and technical institutions,” he said.
