Kwahu East District Assembly rejects President’s nominee

Abetifi, April 22, GNA – The Kwahu East District Assembly on Tuesday rejected the President’s nominee, Mr Samuel Asamoah, for the position of District Chief Executive at an emergency meeting held at Abetifi. He polled 14 out of the 26 total votes cast, representing 53.8 percent He needed two-thirds of the votes cast to be confirmed. That meant that within 10 days from the day of voting another meeting would be organized by the assembly to conduct another election for the nominee. The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu- Ampofo, expressed his disappointment at the inability of the nominee to get the two-thirds majority.

He said delay in confirming the President’s nominee would stall the development agenda of the district and urged the assembly members to bury their differences and give the nominee the nod to lead the district. Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said the interest of the district should be paramount and be above the interest of any individual so that the district would get its fair share of the national cake.
