Police arrests five suspected armed robbers

Koforidua, April 22, GNA – The Eastern Regional Police Command on Tuesday arrested five young men suspected to be armed robbers. The five include Blaise Andoh, 39, a caterpillar operator with Vision Quarries of Sunyani, Abdu Jafaru, 23, unemployed and Michael Ofori, 23, unemployed, and both from Sunyani, David Adofo, 20, unemployed and Richard Adjei, 22, also unemployed from Accra. Speaking at a press briefing in Koforidua, the Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) David N. Ampah-Bennin, said police had a tip-off that a group of suspected armed robbers were gathering at a base at a suburb of Koforidua and planning to strike.

Some of them were said to be dressed in military uniforms and harassing some local residents. The police therefore placed the area under surveillance and organized a swoop and arrested the suspects at the Koforidua Ada Magazine. When they were searched, five pairs of military uniforms and caps, two police reflectors, bayonet dagger and a palmtop DVD player were found on them.

ACP Ampah-Benin warned armed robbers who wanted to use Koforidua as their base that the police were very alert and would deal with them if they dared put their plans into action. He called on the public to be on the lookout and report any suspicious character they found in their areas to the police for necessary action.
