Government willing to lift curfew in Bawku

Bolgatanga, April 18, GNA – Mr Cletus Apol Avoka, Minister of the Interior has stated that Government is committed to lifting the curfew in Bawku if there is a sign of commitment to peace on both sides of the feuding factions.

This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Regional Coordinating Council, Mr Abdul-Khassim Medjida, after the Interior Minister had held a meeting with the opinion leaders of the Mamprusis and the Kusasis. According to the statement, the Interior Minister said that peace could only be returned to Bawku if the feuding factions committed themselves to it.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mark Woyongo, according to the statement said the era of the culture of impunity was gone and urged the people to follow the due process of the law to resolve their differences.

He emphasized that the law would not hesitate to deal with anybody irrespective of their political, religious and ethnic background and appealed to the opinion leaders to form an inter-ethnic peace Committee to enhance the peace process.
