Dauda declared winner of Asutifi South Seat

Suyani, April 10, GNA-Alhaji Collins Dauda, NDC Candidate for Asutifi South Constituency was on Friday declared winner in the 2008 parliamentary election.

He polled 10,984 votes as against 10,970 votes for Mr Yiadom Baokye Boateng, NPP candidate and 78 votes for DPP’s George Otchere. Mr. Henry Kwakye Adjie, Returning Officer announced the results in the presence of regional and constituency officials from the NDC and NPP, the Media, Police and Officials of the Electoral Commission led by Mr Kwesi Arthur Yeboah, the Deputy Regional Director of EC. Also present were Mr Kwedwo Nyamekye Marfo, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister and his Deputy Mr Eric Opoku.

The declaration of the results was in compliance with a unanimous decision by the Supreme Court on Wednesday which overturned the Suyani High Court decision that restricted the EC from declaring the result of the constituency.

The Parliamentary results in the constituency had been held back by the High Court ruling since December 7, last year following a petition by Mr Boateng on December 15 claiming that there were irregularities in the conduct of the constituency election.

Wild jubilations by bus loads of NDC supporters greeted the declaration of the result. A contingent of baton-wielded police personnel was deployed at the Regional EC premises to ensure peace during the exercise.
