Rawlings Appeals To India and Pakistan To Resolve Differences

Accra, – President Jerry John Rawlings today appealed to Pakistan and India, who have fought two wars since independence from Britain, to find a permanent solution to their political differences. He said both countries have the economic and technological capacity to assist other developing nations and should therefore not rpt not sap their energies through conflicts. The President said this when Mr Hafiz Muhammad Yusuf, High Commissioner of Pakistan, called on him at the Castle, Osu to say good-bye after a nine-month duty tour. A political appointee, he was given the post by the government of ex-Premier Benazir Bhutto whose administration was sacked by the Pakistani President. President Rawlings said developing countries were promoting South-South co-operation and that this concept cannot be fully realised if some key countries are locked up in disputes. He told the High Commissioner, ”the two coutries are powerful and can be a formidable force in that region. There is so much you can share with us. “Therefore, solve your problems as soon as possible. There is so much you can share with developing countries in terms of technology”, President Rawlings said.
