Pastor appears in court for fraud

Sekondi, April 7, GNA – Dennis Kofi, a Pastor residing at Takoradi, on Monday appeared before a Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defrauding by false pretence. The accused who pleaded not guilty was remanded to re-appear on April 16 this year.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Albert Deletsa said on August 8 last year, the accused met the complainant, Louis Kojo, a blacksmith, at Half Assini. He said the accused collected 520,000 Ghana Cedis from the complainant to help him obtain a German visa. ASP Deletsa said the accused came to Takoradi, embezzled the money, and vanished into thin air.

He said the complainant looked everywhere for the accused but he could not trace him.

ASP Deletsa said later, the complainant had a tip off that the accused had been arrested and handed over to the Kwesimintsim Police for a similar offence. He said the complainant went to the Kwesimintsim Police Station and reported the matter and the accused who had been freed was re-arrested. ASP Deletsa said the accused admitted the offence in his caution statement and after investigations, he was charged.
