Nsawam Prisons to host additional courts

Accra, April 1, GNA – The Chief Justice, Mrs Justice Georgina Theodora Wood, has directed nine District Magistrates and two Circuit Court Judges to sit at the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons to deal with the cases of prisoners who are in remand and whose warrants have expired, and other related cases.

A release signed by Mr D.A. Kwapong, Director of Communications at the Judicial Service said this followed a recent media reports on remand prisoners and the concerns expressed by some non-governmental organizations in the country.

It said Mr Justice Clemence Honyenuga, Justice of the Appeal Court, has been appointed by the Chief Justice to supervise the sitting of the courts on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at the Nsawam Prisons premises. The release invited the media to provide coverage for the sitting at 0830 hours.
