Warning shot hits 10-year-old-boy

Goaso (B/A) March 30 GNA – A Police warning shot, targeted at dispersing miscreants obstructing the arrest of illegal drug peddlers, strayed and hit a 10 year-old boy, at Goaso, in Asunafo Municipality in Brong Ahafo. The boy, identified as Yaw Korankye, is currently on admission at the government hospital in Goaso. Chief Superintendent Kwabena Bediako, Goaso Divisional Police Commander, who led a patrol team, confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency.

He said the team was on its normal routine patrols last week when they were tipped-off about the activities of Indian hemp and narcotic drug peddlers in a house, at Goaso. When members of the team attempted to enter the house some inmates prevented them and one of the warning shots fired by the police to disperse them incidentally hit the boy in the right thigh. Chief Superintendent Bediako promised to “make life uncomfortable” for those engaged in the illegal drug activities in the Municipality since the practice was a bother to both the police and responsible residents of the municipal capital. No arrests were, however, made as the suspects escaped in the melee that followed the warning shots but the divisional commander said the police had intensified efforts to get at the perpetrators.
