Accra, March 27, GNA – Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills, First Lady, in collaboration with management of Book of Hope International, a non-governmental organization (NGO), on Friday donated Christian books worth 7,000 dollars to the Kanda Cluster of Schools in Accra. The First Lady urged children to make reading a habit, saying “when you read you gain knowledge and no one can take it away from you”. Mrs Mills said statistics indicated that reading was not popular in Ghana and called on parents and guardians to encourage their children to read by creating mini libraries in their homes.
She advised the children to take their studies seriously since they were the future leaders of the nation. About 2,100 books were distributed to 15 schools within the cluster. The books highlight issues relating to sex, how to choose good friends, good moral practices, HIV/AIDS and self-esteem. The Reverend Sylvanus Elorm, Director, Book of Hope International, said the aim of the donation was to help sensitize the youth as well as curbing the surge of immorality in nation.
