Cape Coast, Mar 20, GNA – The US/Canada branch of the Holy Child Past Students Association on Friday presented furniture and two 21-inch television sets and book shelves, worth 5,000 dollars to its alma mater, Holy Child College in Cape Coast.
The furniture included 70 stuffed chairs, 20 sofas and four long tables. Mrs Araba Edu-Mensah, President of the National Union of HOPSA who made the presentation on behalf of the branch, said items were meant for common rooms to be attached to the various dormitories for the relaxation of the students.
She said at the moment two dormitories, Saint Theresa’s and Saint Joseph’s, would benefit and later replicated in the other dormitories. Mrs Edu-Mensah said it was the culture of HOPSA to give back to society as government and parent/teacher associations alone cannot afford the full cost of education adding that it would continue to interact with the school to identify its needs and make provision for them.
Mrs Veronica Mintaah Nyarko, Headmistress of the school, expressed gratitude to the past students and said the establishment of common rooms was very important because it would give the students the opportunity to relax at a place other than the dormitory.
